This pioneering collaboration with The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and world-class arts and technology partners explored how audiences could experience live performances in the future, and contribute to the story, visuals and acoustics of an entertainment event.
Dream was inspired by Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, and gave a unique opportunity for audiences to directly influence the live performance from wherever they were in the world. Audiences experienced a customized performance environment easily accessed on their mobile, desktop or tablet via the Dream website. The performance used the latest gaming and theater technology together with an interactive symphonic score that responded to the actors' movements during the show. Set in a virtual midsummer forest, under the shadow of gathering clouds at dusk, and lit by the glimmer of fireflies, Puck acts as the guide, inviting audiences to explore the forest from the canopy of trees to the roots, meet the sprites and take an extraordinary journey into the eye of a cataclysmic storm, where they must regrow the forest before a spell breaks.
Dream was an extension of the North Star vision of the future of entertainment initiative. A multi-dimensional and multi-sensory research and development project that championed new ways of delivering interactive experiences, pushing the boundaries of digital storytelling and audience engagement.
